Job Summary


Job SummaryUnder general direction of Business Unit Manager, assume responsibility as financial analyst, Course Materials Services and Fees analyst, and financial manager within the budget team to provide intramural and extramural financial planning and budgetary analysis and management for assigned faculty, staff, and programs. Provide financial management and data to ensure comprehensive and accurate budget construction. Work with Principal Investigators/Program Directors to understand new proposals, analyze programmatic needs, and make recommendations. Maintain all grants and extramural records and documentation. Identify, research, and resolve problems. Reconcile ledgers, monitor accounts, and prepare for fiscal closing of accounts at year-end. Collect, analyze, and summarize financial information for special reports. Provide financial support for 50+ Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) appointees and other PI's who are eligible to
undertake formula funded research. This includes -70 AES research projects and 140 federal formula funded (FFF) accounts and budgetary allocations totaling -$550,000 in annual support. Response for assigned recharge rate proposals for PI and/or admin based accounts

Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Experience with federal and private compliance regulations governing grant budgeting, financial reporting, costsharing standards, cost allocation, cost-share and effort reporting, and policies regarding use of grant funds. Experience controlling complex budgets, accounting and personnel functions including detailed budget preparation, contract and grant proposals, purchasing, payroll, ledger reconciliation, and fiscal close.Financial analysis experience including forecasting and strategic planning to analyze and compile financial data and reports, and to assume responsibility for coordination and completion of complex projects requiring interactions with internal parties in a large organizational structure. Experience using interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and to research, secure, and/or provide information to clarify situations, and resolve problems.Knowledge and experience in research administration, including review and submission of proposals for contracts and grants, interpret RFP, use resources, review submission guidelines, and preparation and review of research agreements. Experience with UCD automated financial systems (Cognos, UC-Path, Aggie Enterprise).Organizational skills to work with changing priorities and demanding workload and to use independent judgment to make logical decisions. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, science related field highly preferred; a Master's degree in Business Administration is desirable. Experience with campus rate development, developing rates, updating rates and working on cost variances during the life of an approved rate. In-depth knowledge of cash collection and gift processing functions at the departmental level.Knowledge of cost allocation methods.

Department OverviewThe Plant Sciences Department Business Unit has an annual estimated operating budget for teaching, research and outreach of $40M+, composed of state funds, extramural funds, endowments and sales income. This is a large, complex department with 70 faculty and over 500 staff (representing 332 FTE) stationed on the Davis campus and at several off campus locations throughout the state. Department missions include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research and outreach, including Cooperative Extension, in agricultural plant biology, crop and ecosystems sciences and horticultural sciences. Department faculty are housed in 8 buildings on central campus and at various field stations. Provide service to over 40 green/head houses and numerous other special facilities used in teaching, research, and outreach. In addition to regularly scheduled classes, faculty are responsible for a large number of seminar, internships, and research units each quarter.
